Historical Markers

The goal of our historical marker program is to place eye-catching markers around town commemorating places and events that played a notable role in Verona’s past.

There are people walking by these sites every day who would be interested in hearing the stories they have to tell, but would not otherwise notice or ask.  If we can catch their attention for just a moment with a colorful marker, a photograph, and a few sentences, hopefully we can stoke that curiosity and appreciation in more people.

Our markers are designed by volunteers and funded entirely by donations.  So far, we have installed the following markers:

Former blacksmith shop at 221 South Main Street. (currently the E-Z Plumbing building).  Marker erected July 28, 2020.

The Matts House, at 101 North Main Street.  Marker erected November 7, 2020, upgraded Aug 20, 2023.

Badger Mill Creek.  Marker erected where South Main Street crosses the creek in November 2023.
