Several school buildings have come and gone on the southwest portion of Verona's downtown area. Today only the circa-1918 Graded School building remains. Below are various buildings from over the years. Image credit for the map: Google Maps.
Image the to the left: Photo taken of the first year we had a Verona High School organized, 1899. Because there was not yet a dedicated high school building, classes were held the Woodman Hall (pictured) that stood on the northwest corner of South Shuman Street and West Park Lane. First through eight grades were taught in separate rural schools and a downtown graded school.
This photo was taken in front of the Woodman Hall, which faced south towards West Park Lane. The hall has been replaced with a modern house (right image, circa 2025). The other house shown to the right of the hall in the historic photos stood where the rear west side of Dorn Hardware is today.
